The Definition of a Corset

“A corset is a close-fitting piece of clothing that has been stiffened by various
means in order to shape a woman’s torso to conform to the fashionable silhouette
of the time. The term “corset” only came into use during the 19th century;
before that, such a garment was usually referred to as a pair of bodies, a stiff
bodice, a pair of stays or, simply, stays. In French 18th century texts (e.g.
Garsault, Diderot), you can find the term corset as a lightly stiffened
bodice with tie-on sleeves, whereas proper stays are called corps.”

Corsets have been worn since the 16th century and have developed over time to fashionable corsets, steam punk corsets and there are still the hand made made to measure that some still make and charge a lot of monmey for, but are amazing.

For steel boned corset and more visit www.theburgandyboudoir.com Prices range from £26.99 for a fashion corset, to £100 for a real steel boned corset or steam punk corset www.theburgandyboudoir.com

5 ‘How to Shop’ Tips for Shy Corset Buyers

Not all women are confident enough to buy a corset in a public place, thank goodness for online shopping eh! Corsets are sexy and, therefore, private. I know a few women who consider wearing corsets on special occasions and intended for their partners’ eyes only! Whether you’re buying corsets in shopping malls or in online stores, here are some useful tips for choosing the right corset.

Tip #1: Differentiate the bodice from true corsets. Look for the boning that never kinks and always snaps back. A true corset will not fold along with your body. Note that the boning should be made of steel not hard plastic.

Tip #2: When buying lace-up corsets, test the strength of the laces by gently but firmly yanking a length to stretch. If ribbons were used instead of lace, make sure they are made of very strong material and won’t break or easily unraveled from its knots. Laces or ribbons in corsets are used like shoe strings.

Tip #3: Real corsets are about support and structure. A fashion corset made of silk is more like a bodice when no supporting fabric underneath. To support the structure of true corsets, strong fabrics like heavyweight canvas or thick taffeta fabric are used. Hold the material with both hands and pull to different directions. The corset’s fabric must not stretch or rip apart easily.

Tip #4: Corset sizes are not similar to dress sizes. Determine the correct measurement of your waist. Choosing a one-size smaller than the actual waist measurement may create a curvy and voluptuous figure.

Tip #5: With sleek and stylish corsets, elegance means extravagance. Quality is always expensive. Scrimping when buying corsets may result on getting corsets with low quality. Be prepared to spend more money for a high-quality corset that should last years.
